Create a daily affirmation
A simple daily affirmation is a way to start each day with your personal connection with your higher Self or your sense of Divinity. By designing your personal prayer, you can affirm all that is important to you in your life and your spiritual path.
Your daily affirmation will be unique to you. Use bits and pieces from others, or write your own. Here is what I did:
I have always liked the Lord's Prayer, but the male-God-Christian connotations were too evident to ignore.
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Still, I liked the message and the practice of daily prayer, so I decided to make my own. I looked around the web and at various books that had more direct translations from the Aramaic. Here is one by Neil Douglas-Klotz:
O Birther! Father- Mother of the Cosmos
Focus your light within us - make it useful.
Create your reign of unity now-
through our fiery hearts and willing hands
Help us love beyond our ideals
and sprout acts of compassion for all creatures.
Animate the earth within us: we then
feel the Wisdom underneath supporting all.
Untangle the knots within
so that we can mend our hearts' simple ties to each other.
Don't let surface things delude us,
But free us from what holds us back from our true purpose.
Out of you, the astonishing fire,
Returning light and sound to the cosmos.
Amen.
A bit flowery for my taste.
I put it into my own word and settled on this simple prayer:
O Source of the Divine Universe within me and around me,
Holy are we.
Manifest my desires,
In the world as well as in my heart.
Provide for my needs this day.
Forgive me, and help me to forgive others -
Manifest compassion in my heart and in my actions.
Help me to stay present in the unfolding of my Divine Path,
And bring me back to my Self in wholeness.
I plan to change it as I need to, to meet my changing spiritual needs. After all, that is what prayer is for - to help us live in our connection to Spirit, every day.
